    Hi Steve! Just found your channel and finding it really informative! Thank you! I’m debating between the F1 ultra and the S1 was wondering if you (or anyone else!) is able to help me in deciding please?! I want to use it to engrave business cards both metal and plastic and potentially acrylic items too, and thoughts? F1 and the conveyor belt? Or the S1? Thank you

    • @SteveMakesEverything

      Either laser will engrave cards. You could use the slide on the F1 or the S1. Either way you will need a jig if you want to do multiple cards as a batch. The S1 is more versatile but less portable than the F1, but the F1 can engrave more types of metal

    I'm considering buying this as a rather significant upgrade from my heavily used xTool D1 (not pro) 10w laser. But, since I'm mainly a woodworker, I make things like 18" diameter lazy susans...and some charcuterie boards that might be wider than will fit inside the enclosure. So.... My question is: Does this enclosed engraver allow for "pass-thru" projects so that, for example, I could engrave a quote on one end of a charcuterie board, then a family name on the opposite end? Let's assume that my charcuterie board is 8" wide but 28" long. Would I be able to use this engraver for such a project? I'm imagining that riser blocks or similar might be necessary to raise the creality frame off the surface of the wood. ~Dr. Larry S. Anderson • Tupelo, MS (birthplace of Elvis!)

    • @SteveMakesEverything
      @SteveMakesEverything 5 днів тому

      No pass-thru on the Falcon 2 Pro. If that’s what you need then you need to look at the Xtool S1 or now the Wecreat Vision. Both have conveyor options for longer items.

    Hi all, I have a question. I have never used a laser engraving machine and would need it to engrave letters to empty computer keyboards (it has no letters on it, so just blank keys). Material is usually plastic (don't know what kind of plastic). My engraver uses a laser but don't know what kind and results are great. Now I would like to start doing this on my own, so as a NOOB, my questions to you experts are. Is it complicated to do such engraving? Will I learn it quick and do I need to know how to use any additional software? As i looked Xtool F1 Ultra would be suitable for this? Thank you!

    • @SteveMakesEverything
      @SteveMakesEverything 7 днів тому

      My reply got lost so here it is again. The F1 Ultra might be overkill if this is all you do with your laser. The keys on a keyboard are typically ABS or Polystyrene and either should engrave with pretty much any laser - even something like a 5W diode laser. You'll have to play with the settings of course. If you are using an xTool laser then no additional software is required. xTool provides XCS for free and it works well. If you are using others lasers, you might have to buy a copy of Lightburn, but it's priced reasonably.

    • @PeterZibert-ki5ki

      @@SteveMakesEverything Thank you so much. Well I would like the F1 ultra as I hope in time I will be ablet to do a lot more engraving. Just 2 more questions please. Would you recommend to use the conveyor belt for engraving the keyboards as I will need to move them 2x to engrave the whole keyboard without the conveyor? And if I understand correctly, it should be quite easy to set up the laser for engraving letters on different type of keyboards?

    • @SteveMakesEverything

      Are you asking about a CO2 laser that is also a diode laser? I have thought about this with my DIY CO2 laser, and in theory, it should be pretty easy to do. But I'm not sure there's a lot of value since a CO2 laser can do 90% of what a typical diode laser can, plus it can do a lot of this a diode laser can't.

    Steve, another great video. I purchased the 20W WeCreat Vision a few months ago partially based on your comments since it’s my first laser. I have done many projects with the laser and I’m happy with my decision. Rumors are they may have a 40W module so the current 20W customers can upgrade to a 40W without purchasing a new entire system since all the current accessories work on both the 20W and 40W. Thoughts?

    • @SteveMakesEverything
      @SteveMakesEverything 9 днів тому

      If you find yourself doing a lot of cutting, this upgrade might be worth considering. The beam size is 0.9mmx0.1mm, which is comparable to a lot of 20W lasers, so engraving is also better than average for a 40W. You still get to keep your 20W laser module too, so you can always swap it back in.

Two quick questions: 1) would you be able to skip the sanding if you masked everything from the start (or what would the challenges be)? Is there a recommended "mask" that would peel off easily but still not melt with the heating of the powder?

    Nice video Steve but yet another one that doesn't show the connection of a rotary. Not one video has been released of a Falcon Pro 2 of any size with a rotary attached. The silence on this matter is somewhat deafening. Is it because those safety features that they boast about have to be disabled to remove the bottom drawer to get it to work, rendering the enclosure just a cover with an open bottom? As well as other design flaws which have been pointed out to Creality from day one of the Pro 2's release and have been totally ignored.

    • @SteveMakesEverything
      @SteveMakesEverything 15 днів тому

      I don't have a rotary to try. There isn't a dedicated rotary connector that I can find, so they will be disconnecting the Y axis and using that for rotation. I checked, and the laser won't run with the bottom open, so they've prevented that, but there should be enough room inside the laser to run a rotary anyway. I agree that Creality isn't responsive to feedback, and many companies are like this, but not all. For example, I made a passive comment in my xTool F1 Ultra video about some challenges I ran into, and that triggered several conversations about what was wrong and what they needed to fix.

    • @pileofstuff
      @pileofstuff 14 днів тому

      @@SteveMakesEverything I just set up the rotary on my Pro2, and I had to do a few things that Creality probably wouldn't approve of. Pulled the drawer out, used a couple of strategically placed magnets to trick the safety sensor, then added riser legs (borrowed from a n older non-pro falcon) to lift the frame up enough so the rotary would fit under the laser head without crashing. From what I can tell, the rotary and the Pro2 were not really intended to work together. Oh, and yes, the rotary plugs into the cable for the Y stepper (at the front of the machine)

    • @SteveMakesEverything
      @SteveMakesEverything 14 днів тому

      @@pileofstuff Awesome! Thanks for this. Since Creality didn't seem interested in sending a rotary with the laser (twice) I was assuming what you have now discovered about the compatibility with the 2Pro. Hi Steve, Thank you for your well informed video. Can you tell me what laser machine you are using to cut the stencils? The link you have goes to the Cricut but I am looking at purchasing a basic laser cutter. Thanks again. Anna :)

    • @SteveMakesEverything
      @SteveMakesEverything 15 днів тому

      You can use virtually any laser for this. If you are buying a new laser I'd recommend a 20-30W diode laser. This will work if your stencils are made from card stock, cardboard or Mylar. Don't try to cut PVC with any laser though, since it will outgas Chlorine.

    I have to say that more examples and less face time would have been nicer. You obviously did some tests but they had very little screen time. Compared to some of the other reviews I saw at the same time, this was a little disappointing, especially considering yours are usually pretty good.

      Noted, but I didn't see a point in making the same video everyone else is going to make-especially with beta hardware and software. Instead, I'll do a more focused video in the next few weeks to show what you can actually do with this laser in the real world.

    You talk about the cross hairs in this UA-cam. I was hoping for more information about this. Can you tell me how to turn that cross hair on and off? Mine does not come on and I need to know if it's a problem with the machine or if something got turned off some how?

    • @SteveMakesEverything
      @SteveMakesEverything 15 днів тому

      I don't think there is a way to turn this crosshair on/off. But if there is, it would be an extended GRBL variable, so you would need to ask Atezr if they enabled this.

      @@SteveMakesEverything Thank you for the reply, It's seems that you are correct. With all my research to find a way to do that, I found nothing short of unplugging it. I got one reply this morning about that and he said he checked the mother board and he thinks it was a loose connection there. He never followed up on that because he had ordered a new mother board and so he just replaced the whole mother board. I guess I'm just stuck with no laser crosshair for now.

    Ok what's the actual stainless steel you using. I have the 10w longer R5. I've tried 3 different types of stainless steel items. And I can't even barely make a mark. Some I painted white or tried without with the same result. I have issues with certain glass items. So am I missing a setting somewhere? Any help would be great.

    • @SteveMakesEverything
      @SteveMakesEverything 17 днів тому

      I just go to my local metal superstore and buy 303 or 304 stainless steel plate. A 10 watt is going to struggle a bit, but if you're at 100% power and moving very slow (maybe 3-5mm/s) you should be able to mark. You can always use multiple passes as well to darken it with each pass.

    Good video a lot more to the point then the ones I origanally learned on. A trick I found to cut down the laser time, depending how thick you want you want your roads. If you are ok with thin roads or haveing the roads outlined with double lines this may work for you. Instead of engrave the roads set that layer to score or cut with a weak setting like cutting thin cardboard. This may require thining the lines in you editing software. For some maps It gives a nice clean look and is much faster. Other applications I still engrave the roads but just an option.

      Yes there are many options. It’s fairly complex tooling, but the results are great

    Amazing stuff! But the batch process just confused me. It looks like the engraving was totally misaligned (rotated) on the wooden batches. Just camera angle? Is it really usable like throwing the stuff in the belt like advertised?

    • @SteveMakesEverything
      @SteveMakesEverything 17 днів тому

      Some was camera angle, but I did have two with alignment issues that I’ve passed on to Xtool. They are working on this and it may already be fixed but I haven’t checked yet.

    Thanks Steve, awesome video and tips. So I tried this on my Roly 10W and used your setting to do a material test, however noticed that the color on the scratch paper appeared to be heat sensitive and didn't pop as the regular scratching. Any suggestions? Thanks keep up the great work.

    • @SteveMakesEverything

      Maybe this depends on the manufacturer. I did notice the colors were a bit flat until I sprayed a coat of clear coat over the finished design. Give that a try and see if it helps

      I mostly buy this at Home Depot or local hardware store. It’s cheap than so-called laser-grade plywood, though you may need to hunt a bit for flatter sheets.

    We should take the review a bit further and discuss the support provided with the product. It is strictly through email with China so you may get a response every other day. The response is usually questions from them which can now drag the issue out for weeks. Their warranty is for show only. We had an issue with the flame detection sensor failing and the laser head burned up. The laser did not shut off, nor did the laser return to the home location as it's manual stated it is supposed to. When confronted, Atezr stated they will replace it with a 5w laser head. LMAO, a 5w and then asked if that's ok. Of course it wasn't. It's now going on it's 4th week and we are still no closer to resolving the issue than when we first began. On top of that, they have still not fixed the autofocus failing issue (common issue with this brand, google it) and after 3 mos., I have already had to replace the main board when a soldered piece broke off inside the screen housing. And if you want to buy any spare parts other than a pack of screws, such as a laser head or harnassed cables to have as a spare, forget it. They do not sell parts like that and they always blame their "supplier". So when it breaks, I've tried 4 of this same model (thank you Amazon for your 30 day return policy), then you are stuck holding a $1200.00 paper weight. Good luck.
